Science research students from Sachem High School East and High School North participated in the 2024 Long Island Brain Bee held at the Hofstra University School of Medicine on March 2. The event seeks to develop interests in careers involving neurology, neurosurgery, neuroscience and psychology.

The competition is comprised of a written exam and a hands-on lab evaluation. The written portion tests knowledge of various brain facts, such as diseases of the brain and brain structure. The lab component of the exam involves using actual human brains to identify brain structures and their related functions. The students had a wonderful time interacting with medical students and neurosurgeons during the lab activities and related presentations.
