Late last month, the Sachem High School East Student Government Club ran its annual March Madness event virtually to raise money and awareness for important causes.

The event featured no in-person spectators, but the classes that participated were excited to see their peers take part in the traditional three-point and slam dunk contests and a new spikeball tournament that the officers of the club now hope to make a tradition at High School East. Additionally, the Treble Choir, ICONIC, the junior varsity and varsity cheerleading teams, and the junior varsity and varsity Arrowettes performed during the event.

As a result of the outstanding student effort, all of the money raised will go to a COVID-19 food relief fund at the Town of Brookhaven. The club will begin the spring push to raise money and awareness for the ALS Ride for Life in memory of Dr. Christopher Pendergast, who lost his battle with the disease this past October.
