High school sports can be about a lot more than wins and losses. Sachem North football hosted its “Arrow Up for Downs” event on Friday, Oct. 18 honoring students and community members who have Down syndrome.

A number of students met with varsity football players during the school day and had an incredible experience running out of the blowup head dress on the field prior to Sachem North’s game against Walt Whitman High School.

Students were named honorary captains and joined players from both teams during the coin toss before the game. They wore Sachem football jerseys and were overjoyed to be part of the action thanks to the coaches, teachers and staff members who helped organize the event.
