Fourth grade students in Jennifer Levy’s class at Chippewa Elementary School recently participated in an activity in which they created posters to protest the taxes imposed on American colonists by King George in 1765.

As part of the lesson, students learned that King George III imposed unfair taxes on the colonists, which angered them and led to protests with signs. Additionally, students learned the origin of the saying “No taxation without representation,” signifying the colonist’s lack of representation in the English government, and its contrast to the American government of today.

Students used their unique creativity to craft their very own signs to display as part of their new knowledge of the struggles the colonists faced during this time in American history.
