An artist-inspired activity in Alexis Curcio’s art class at Tamarac Elementary School gained a technology twist as second grade students used Spheros to paint vibrant, colorful creations with help from Technology Integration Specialist Claudia Camassa.

Using the Sphero robots, students paired up with a classmate to create Jackson Pollack-inspired action paintings after reading “Action Jackson” by Jan Greenberg and Sandra Jordan. Students used their newfound knowledge of Pollack’s work to drag neon paint across their papers.

Concluding the activity, students viewed each other’s unique creations using a blacklight and shared what they liked about their peers’ paintings.
