In March, Merrimac Elementary School rolled out the red carpet for a star-studded celebration of reading during its annual PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) Week. This year’s theme, “Lights, Camera, Read!” turned the spotlight on books and made reading the main event.
An impressive 255 students joined the fun by diving into stories and completing engaging activities from their customized “READO” bingo boards. Whether reading with a partner or taking on creative reading challenges, students embraced the spirit of the week with enthusiasm and joy.
Led by school librarian Lisa Martinez-Sabella and classroom teacher Allison Dassau, the program brought reading to life in exciting new ways. To recognize their efforts, all participants were invited to a donut celebration sponsored by the Merrimac PTA, adding a sweet touch to a week full of literary excitement. The top four participating classes earned a special “Day at the Movies” in the Multi-Purpose Room, where students were treated to popcorn, treats and a screening of “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile,” all made possible by PTA support.
Merrimac is proud of its dedicated readers and grateful for the collaboration between students, families, staff and the PTA.
