The Sachem East Drama Club stepped on stage to learn from a professional actor during a theater workshop on Oct. 4. Class of 1991 Sachem graduate Jeffrey Schecter went back to his roots to teach students a dance for their upcoming production of “A Chorus Line.” Schecter performed in the last Broadway production of “A Chorus Line,” making him a valuable resource for students as they prepare for the musical. Schecter has several other acting credits including a reoccurring spot on “Law and Order: SVU” and appearances in “Saved by the Bell: The New Class.”

Schecter kicked off the workshop with a question-and-answer session with students. He shared his experience as a student-actor in Sachem and the steps he took to get into the business after graduation. Schecter then led students through a warm-up exercise before coaching them through one of their dances in “A Chorus Line.”

This marked the first professional workshop for theater students at Sachem High School East. It was an invaluable experience for students and helped them expand on their theatrical skills while building confidence. Students left feeling inspired from seeing a professional, who was once in their shoes in Sachem, succeeding in the industry and following his dreams.

The Sachem East production of “A Chorus Line” will take place at 7 p.m. on Nov. 3 and Nov. 4.
