The Sachem Central School District Board of Education recognized several groups of students during its May 16 meeting. Students who participated in the Special Olympics were honored. Students from Samoset Middle School, Sachem High School East and North trained hard to participate in regional competition on May 6. All athletes took home medals in their divisions. Additionally, Sachem student and staff volunteers were recognized for helping out at the event.

Chairperson for Secondary Music Gerard Giglio also recognized music students who participated in the intermediate division of the Long Island String Festival. Fifth through eighth grade students performed in a concert with other orchestra students from across Suffolk County earlier this year.

The final recognition of the evening honored this year’s valedictorians and salutatorians from both high schools. At Sachem High School East, Siddharth Sheth was named valedictorian and Jada Drew was named salutatorian. At Sachem High School North, Alexa Ginis earned the valedictorian designation whereas Sara Breitenbecker and Gianna Marchese were named co-salutatorians. The district congratulated these students on achieving the top academic honors of the Class of 2023.
