Sachem High School North is proud to announce Alexa Ginis as its Class of 2023 valedictorian and Sara Breitenbecker and Gianna Marchese as its co-salutatorians.

Alexa’s passion for learning is evident in the classroom and through her work with the district’s early childhood internship program. Throughout her junior and senior years, Alexa has spent two periods of her school day working with Sachem Universal Pre-K students and experiencing all that goes into being a teacher. Her desire to work with children has led to her involvement as a tutor with the Sachem Youth Center and a SCOPE group leader at Hiawatha Elementary School’s after-care program.

Not only does Alexa work to better other students, she pushes herself in the classroom. She has taken seven Advanced Placement courses and 15 honors classes. Her academic excellence has allowed her to be an active member of the National History Honor Society and Foreign Language Honor Society. These organizations have given several service opportunities both in Sachem High School North and out in the community.

Sara, one of this year’s salutatorians, is highly involved in the Sachem North school community. Throughout her time in high school, Sara has been enrolled in rigorous coursework and active in a total of five honor societies. Most recently, she became a member of the school’s Recycling Council after her interest and awareness of environmental issues was ignited while taking AP Environmental Science. Additionally, she was a member of the junior and senior class clubs and was instrumental in planning school activities.

While a leader in the classroom, Sara is also a student-athlete and a leader on the playing field. She has received post-season honors on the field hockey team and also was a member of the girls lacrosse team. She is an active member of the community as a volunteer with the Sachem Public Library, helps coordinate Sachem North’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive and has participated in fundraising efforts for cancer research and disaster relief.

Co-salutatorian Gianna Marchese is highly involved in music and the arts at Sachem High School North. She is a four-year member of the championship marching band and was selected to participate in the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She is the president of Sachem North’s prestigious pit orchestra, music council and the vice president of the Northwind News website. Her success in the music arts and in the classroom earned her a spot in the Tri-M Music Honor Society. In addition to her officer positions in several music groups, Gianna is a member of a number of other organizations including the PTSA, senior class government, Model UN and the Science Olympiad team.

As a member of the varsity Arrowettes team, Gianna performs at school events and sports games. Outside of school, Gianna volunteers her time with the Sachem Community Youth Services. She also dedicates herself to serve the larger Sachem community through participating in monthly road cleanups, charity walks and other events.

This fall, Alexa will continue her passion for early childhood education at the University of Hartford, Sara will study psychology at the University of Connecticut and Gianna will attend Stony Brook University to pursue a degree in computer engineering. The district congratulates them for achieving the top academic honors for the Class of 2023 and wishes them the best.
