Seneca Middle School’s Lego Robotics Team competed in the FIRST Lego League Robotics qualifier event at Mineola High School on Jan. 21. The FIRST Lego League provides students with real-world problem-solving experiences through a robotics program. It helps students strengthen their critical thinking, coding and design skills through hands-on learning.

The qualifier event consisted of four judging opportunities – research project presentation, core values, robot presentation and the robot game. This year’s theme was “Super Powered.” Throughout the competition, students were challenged with thinking about energy including where it comes from, how it’s generated and how much we use.

The Seneca Middle School team is coached by Heidi Michta and Michael Lundstrom and made up of 12 students: Aishwarya Kammili, Nick Manzi, Liam McCarthy, Matthew McCauley, Anthony “AJ” Palma, Amelia Pascale, Dylan Pfeiffer, Isaac Prisco, Madison Tarantino, Alex Tavares, Atulya Tribathi and Jacob Weiss.

The team was successful in completing various missions in the robot game and worked as a team the entire day. Students look forward to competing in the next season!
