Students taking marketing, hospitality and culinary classes at Sachem High School East got a behind-the-scenes look at the Suffolk County Community College Culinary Arts Center in Riverhead during a recent field trip. Through the East Business Alliance, Maria Camassa of Lucky Lou’s Gourmet Pudding facilitated the experience for students.

Forty-six students attended the trip, which began with visiting Suffolk’s student-led bakery and lunch operation. Then, they headed to the lecture hall for a cooking demonstration by professor and Chef Satoko Matthews. The trip wrapped up with a glimpse into the kitchen “classroom” where teachers instructed Suffolk students.

Students expressed that this was one of their favorite field trips they had experienced. The business department is looking at future opportunities to collaborate with Suffolk County Community College at its different facilities.
