This school year, both Sachem High School East and North introduced a new class to teach students culinary skills. The course at North is called essential kitchen skills and teaches students how to become active participants in the cooking process from food prep, to clean-up, along with learning where food comes from. At East, the curriculum is titled cooking essentials.

At High School North, students recently learned the “farm to table” concept through harvesting their own food from the school garden. They made their own sweet potato fries using sweet potatoes they grew. Students cured and cut the produce into fry form while practicing safe knife skills. Ultimately, they made a delicious snack and were involved throughout the entire process.
