The Sachem High School East freshman class government created a mental health awareness memorial that they unveiled on Monday, May 23. Students built a bench and created a beautiful rock garden with rocks on which they painted positive messages and symbols. The unveiling came during Mental Health Awareness Month, which aims to educate the public about mental illness and mental health stigmas.

The space is meant to be a place for reflection and peace, while also spreading awareness about mental health. Students dedicated the memorial in loving memory of their friend and peer, Shane Meeks.
