During the most recent meeting of the Sachem Central School District Board of Education the Board recognized a collection of outstanding students for their academic accomplishments and volunteer efforts outside of the classroom.

As part of the recognition the Board honored Sachem High School East junior Adriana Ancilleri, who recently completed her Girl Scout Gold Award project: adding the “Healthy Hearts for Happy Kids” trail to the Town of Brookhaven’s Holtsville Wildlife and Ecology Center fitness track.

Additionally, the Board recognized Michaela Barresi, Anastasia Glenis, Alexis Ly, Andrea Reina and Adam Todd from Sachem High School East and Dilip Reddy Kusuma, Joseph Schiano and Taryn Wilcken from Sachem High School North, who have been named commended students in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program.

At the end of September, about 34,000 of the approximately 50,000 highest scorers were chosen for this honor based on their PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test results. All eight students boast impressive academic résumés, including enrollment in numerous Advanced Placement courses, integral involvement in clubs and memberships in a plethora of honor societies.
