Sachem High School’s North economics and finance club recently advanced to the semifinal round of the Euro Challenge after its success at the regional competition. The Euro Challenge is an academic competition sponsored by the Delegation of the European Union to the United States. It encourages American students to learn more about the European Union and its currency through team-based challenges surrounding economic issues in the Euro area.

On April 24, the team traveled to New York City to compete in regionals. This year’s team played the roles of policymakers and were tasked with solving problems stemming from a lack of innovation in the nation of Portugal. The team spent months researching the problem and created a 15-minute presentation for the competition, which featured policy recommendations.

Sachem High School North placed in the top 25 out of 82 teams from across the country, advancing them to the next round. In addition to participating in the regional competition in New York City, students had the opportunity to visit PineBridge Investments and Wells Fargo’s corporate headquarters during their trip.
