Students at Lynwood Avenue Elementary School are learning about the life and contributions of Martin Luther King Jr.

Mrs. Replak’s class read “Martin’s Big Words,” a children’s biography about Martin Luther King Jr. and how he used the power of words to convey his message. The third graders then made a list of powerful words meaningful to them. They took their top five words and created a flip book with explanations of each word’s importance.

Ms. Kearney and Ms. Wilson’s class created a timeline of Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and displayed it in the hallway. During the activity, students wrote important life events on footprints to visualize “A Walk in Dr. King’s Shoes” and how Dr. King became a leader in the fight for equal rights.
