Nokomis Elementary School kicked off American Heart Month during an assembly on Feb. 3. The school community wore red to raise awareness of heart disease and were introduced to the Kids Heart Challenge.

The Kids Heart Challenge is a fundraising campaign to raise money for the American Heart Association. Students are encouraged to raise money through daily challenges and are able to earn incentives along the way.

Throughout the program, students learn about their own heart health. They were given ways to support their physical and emotional wellness including participating in physical activity, drinking water, getting enough sleep, being kind and saying no to tobacco and vaping.
