The Sachem Robotics team, consisting of ninth to 12th grade students from both Sachem High School East and North, has been working hard this season, which started the first weekend after the new year.

This year the challenge is called “Rapid React.” During the 2022 season the team has competed at the New York Tech Valley Regional in Albany, New York, and the SPBLI Long Island Regional #2 regional at Hofstra University. Both competitions had over 40 teams registered. While at New York Tech Valley the team was able to test and tune its robot on a regulation field for the first time and made it into the quarterfinals but unfortunately was eliminated. The team came home with valuable information about how the robot reacted in a competition compared to on the practice field built in the team’s lab at Sachem High School North. They were able to make minor changes to mechanical components and modified the vision processing software used to aim and determine the distance from the goal.

The following week the team went to SPBLI Long Island Regional #2 and tweaked the changes made prior to the regional. After three days of intense competition the team found themselves on the No. 5 seed alliance with West Hampton Beach and Turkey. The team was eliminated from the quarterfinals due to losing the match by one point. Overall, Sachem Robotics Team 263 had a great season and they are already excited for next year.
