Acceptance and understanding were among key concepts emphasized at Hiawatha Elementary School as students across grade levels recently participated in a collection of in-class activities and an outdoor autism awareness walk to share important information about autism.

During the weeklong event, students participated in daily in-class activities to spread awareness of autism. Students visited stations to learn what autism is and the ways in which some people with autism communicate, and also participated in sensory activities and high- and low-energy games.
