Prior to the winter break business students from Sachem High School East’s sports and entertainment management classes and hospitality and tourism classes went on a field trip to Citi Field Stadium, the home of the New York Mets in Queens, New York, with Mrs. Cannetti and Mr. McCaffrey.

A Citi Field tour guide gave students a brief history of the stadium and the many things besides baseball that take place there. Throughout the tour, students saw the different types of clubs and suites, restaurants and other venders and amenities that are available to different types of ticket holders. Students were then taken on the field, the dugout and the bullpens.

Students also visited the control room and the press box where they learned all about behind-the-scenes management and marketing, including the enormous operating costs that go into running a first-class professional sports venue. Students were informed about the many possible career opportunities involved with hospitality and tourism and sports and entertainment management.

The final part of the trip included walking past the entrance to the New York Met’s Clubhouse and taking a peek inside, along with the workout facility, the offices for the coaching staff, the lunchroom, the batting cages and the indoor sprinting track.
