Tamarac Alum Comes Home for Touching 9/11 Tribute

Connor Nee, the nephew and godson of FDNY firefighter George Cain, was just 5 years old and a kindergartener at Tamarac Elementary School when his uncle, known as “Georgie,” tragically lost his life on Sept. 11, 2001.

A few years later, Connor wrote the book “American Hero” in honor of his uncle, who served with the NYPD’s Ladder 7. The book was later honored by being placed in Tamarac Elementary School’s “Vault” time capsule.

Today, Connor continues to share his uncle’s story, traveling with his mother and daughter, who coincidentally shares the same birthday as her great-uncle Georgie.

Connor will be honored again later this year during Police Officer Day, continuing a legacy that began with a 5-year-old boy who wanted to make sure his uncle’s story would never be forgotten.

His story reminds us that while we remember those we lost, their stories and legacies continue to live on.
