Two Sachem educators were recognized at the June Board of Education meeting after earning first-place honors in the 2026 Teachers Federal Credit Union Teacher Appreciation Week Contest, a nationwide program that celebrates outstanding educators making a difference in their schools and communities.

Representing the elementary level, Cayuga Elementary School teacher Jaimie Miscioscia was named the first-place winner in the Pre-K through Grade 5 category. Miscioscia, the co-founder of the nationally recognized P.S. I Love You Day movement, was honored for bringing the organization's mission of kindness, connection and emotional wellness into schools. Through her work, she helps create supportive learning environments that foster social-emotional growth, resilience and academic success for students.

At the middle school level, Samoset Middle School sixth-grade science teacher Lindsay Guzzo earned first place in the Grades 6-8 category. Guzzo was recognized for her engaging, hands-on approach to science instruction, which encourages curiosity, critical thinking and inquiry-based learning. Beyond the classroom, she has made a significant impact on school culture through her leadership with student government and involvement in PTA initiatives that promote service and community engagement.

The Teachers Federal Credit Union contest attracted nominations from educators across the country, with winners ultimately selected through public voting. First-place recipients in each grade-level division received classroom grants to support future learning opportunities for their students.

The Sachem Board of Education proudly recognized both educators for their dedication to students and for representing the district with distinction on a regional and national stage. Their achievements reflect the passion, innovation and commitment to student success found throughout Sachem Schools.
