Honoring Service: Sachem Receives Military Family Books Ahead of Memorial Day

In recognition of Memorial Day later this month, Sachem Board of Education Trustee and Navy veteran Michael J. Isernia, Esq., on behalf of the Military Business Resource Group of UL Solutions, presented 30 copies of H Is for Honor: A Military Family Alphabet by Devin Scillian to the Sachem Central School District on May 6 in Lake Ronkonkoma.
The book uses the alphabet to help explain the experiences, traditions, and sacrifices of military families. The donated copies will be distributed among the district’s 10 elementary school libraries and three middle school libraries. Educators will use the books to teach students about the importance of honoring those who have served, and continue to serve, the country, as well as the sacrifices made by military families.
Accepting the donation on behalf of the district were Board of Education President Vincent Reynolds, Superintendent of Schools Patti Trombetta, fellow board members, and several district librarians.
First established in 1955, the Sachem Central School District is the second-largest suburban school district in New York State. Spanning more than 23 square miles, the district serves approximately 12,000 students across 15 school buildings.
