Sachem is proud to announce that Sagamore Middle School band director Kerri Rubenstein has been selected as the conductor for the Nassau-Suffolk Performing Arts Honor Band East.

This prestigious appointment recognizes Ms. Rubenstein’s outstanding dedication to music education, student achievement, and leadership in the performing arts community. As conductor of the Honor Band East, she will lead some of Suffolk County's most talented young musicians.

Mrs. Rubenstein has served as a band director since 2003 and has been a valued member of the Sagamore Middle School faculty since 2008. She directs the 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade bands, oversees small group instruction, and leads the school’s Jazz Band program. Under her direction, student ensembles have consistently earned top ratings at NYSSMA Majors and travel festivals.

In addition to her work in Sachem, Mrs. Rubenstein is an active leader in music education across Long Island. She has served in numerous county and regional leadership roles, including festival chairperson positions, adjudication work, and guest conducting opportunities.

“This is an incredible honor,” said Mrs. Rubenstein. “I’m excited for the opportunity to work with such talented student musicians and to celebrate the power of music-making with students from across Suffolk County.”

The Nassau-Suffolk Performing Arts organization brings together exceptional student performers from across Long Island, providing enriching musical experiences under the leadership of distinguished educators and conductors.
