Sachem Schools Unite for St. Baldrick’s, Raising Funds and Awareness for Childhood Cancer

A powerful display of community spirit unfolded over the last week across the Sachem Central School District as multiple schools hosted St. Baldrick’s Foundation events, raising funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer.
From elementary buildings to secondary schools, students, staff, and community members gathered in gyms and on stages to take part in one of the district’s most meaningful traditions. The hallmark of each event remained the same: participants volunteered to have their heads shaved, symbolizing support for children battling cancer while helping generate critical donations for research.
While each school brought its own unique style to the day, the shared mission created a unifying experience across the district. Some events featured festive touches tied to the organization’s Irish roots, including live bagpipe performances and Irish step dancers, adding energy and cultural significance in the lead-up to St. Patrick’s Day.
Beyond the performances and fundraising, the events highlighted a strong sense of collaboration within Sachem. Cosmetology students from Sachem East and Sachem North played a key role, lending their skills to assist with haircuts and shaves. Their involvement not only supported the cause but also showcased meaningful, real-world applications of their training while giving back to their own community.
The impact extended far beyond the haircuts themselves. Each shave represented solidarity, compassion, and a commitment to making a difference. Together, Sachem schools once again demonstrated how a shared purpose can bring an entire community together in support of children and families facing childhood cancer.
