This past weekend, the drama clubs from Sachem East and Sachem North attended the New York State Theatre Education Association (NYSTEA) conference, a three-day immersive experience dedicated to theatre education.

The 43 participating students took part in a wide range of workshops covering all aspects of theatre, including dance, singing, acting, stage management, sound and lighting design, and costuming. 

In addition to skill-building, students had the opportunity to network with colleges and connect with peers from across New York State who share a passion for the performing arts.

Several students were also selected to perform songs and monologues for theatre industry professionals, gaining valuable feedback and real-world experience. One Sachem East first-year student, Cassidy Goodman, earned special recognition by winning the NYSTEA merchandise design contest. Her artwork will be featured on official NYSTEA merchandise for the 2027 conference.

Overall, the experience equipped students with new techniques and inspiration to bring back to their programs, and they are already looking forward to attending NYSTEA again next year.
