Sachem North Senior Leads Remarkable “Socktober” Drive, Donating 3,300 Pairs of Socks to Those in Need
In an inspiring display of leadership and compassion, Sachem North senior Nicholas Golding organized a massive community service effort this fall, collecting 3,300 pairs of socks through his annual “Socktober” initiative. What began as a small idea three years ago has evolved into a powerful tradition of giving, now standing as one of the district’s most impactful student-led service projects.
Golding coordinated the entire campaign himself, spreading awareness, rallying support, and working directly with local organizations to distribute the donations. His drive exemplifies the spirit of service that defines Sachem and highlights the difference one student can make with determination, heart, and a commitment to helping others.
Golding said the success of the initiative is a true reflection of the people around him.
“I couldn’t do it without my community, without the school, without my friends,” he said. “This program started three years ago. It was absolutely amazing. Giving back to people in need is incredibly motivating and inspiring. It has been my passion since I was a kid.”
His work serves as a reminder of the power of service and the extraordinary impact young people can make when they put others first.
