Cayuga TeachersThe Sachem Central School District is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievements of two standout educators who continue to elevate our school community through their professionalism, dedication, and student-centered leadership.

Cayuga Elementary physical education teacher Amanda Delaney has been selected to receive the 2025 Elementary Physical Education Section Amazing People Award, a prestigious honor presented by Zones and Sections to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the health and physical education profession. This statewide recognition places Amanda among New York’s most impactful educators in her field.

She will be formally honored on November 20 during the 87th Annual NYS AHPERD Conference. This event brings together leaders and future professionals committed to excellence in health, physical education, recreation, and dance. Amanda’s work continues to embody NYS AHPERD's mission through her commitment to fostering healthy mindsets, building strong character, and creating meaningful, active experiences for students each day.

Adding to the district’s celebration, both Delaney and Jos Scholz were recognized by the Suffolk County Teachers Association (SCTA) as the 2024–2025 Educators of the Year.

"This honor reflects their unwavering passion for teaching, their dedication to student growth, and the positive impact they make throughout the Sachem community," said Cayuga Principal Lori Onesto.

Their daily contributions—whether in the classroom, in the gym, or through the countless positive interactions they foster—shine as examples of what it means to be extraordinary educators.

Congratulations to Amanda and Joseph on these well-deserved honors. Sachem is stronger because of you!
