Sachem East Science National Honor Society Partners with Suffolk Community College for “Science After Dark”
Sachem East’s Science National Honor Society (SNHS) proudly showcased its leadership, service, and scientific curiosity through a successful collaboration with Suffolk County Community College during the college’s annual Science After Dark event.
The Halloween-themed STEM night brought families from across the community together for an evening of hands-on learning, and Sachem East’s SNHS students played a significant role in making the experience both educational and exciting. Members led a variety of interactive science stations, guiding children through activities such as creating slime, making dry ice bubbles, exploring astronomy trivia, and powering a lemon battery using a hand-crank generator.
The collaboration also highlighted the honor society's organizational and leadership strengths. Junior Ananya Sood was recognized for coordinating directly with Suffolk Community College to help plan the event — a key role in bringing the partnership to life.
Publicity Director Emily Ihne said the evening reflected the mission of the Science National Honor Society: promoting scientific knowledge, community engagement, and academic excellence.
“Our students loved engaging younger learners and showing them that science can be both meaningful and fun,” she said.
With continued partnerships and growing student involvement, Sachem East’s SNHS looks forward to expanding its outreach and inspiring the next generation of STEM learners.
