Sachem Technology Educators Participate in 2025 LITEEA Conference, Strengthening Programs and Expanding Recruitment Efforts
Sachem’s Technology Education team joined more than 140 educators from across Long Island recently for the 2025 Long Island Technology and Engineering Educators Association (LITEEA) Conference — a full day dedicated to professional learning, industry partnerships, and collaborative planning for the future of CTE instruction.
Hosted by the Marine Industrial Base, HAAS, Allendale, and the West Babylon School District, the conference provided teachers with hands-on workshops and sessions that directly support classroom innovation. Sachem educators participated in workshops including “Becoming a NYS Master Teacher,” “Jones Beach Schools to Career Program,” “U.S. Navy MIB Program Opportunities and Information for Educators,” “VEX – More Than Just Robots,” “Student Certifications for CAD, Precision Measurement and Manufacturing,” and “Creating Your Own Printed Circuit Board.” Additional breakout discussions focused on sharing project ideas for high school Design & Drawing for Production (DDP), CAD, and engineering courses.
Beyond the classroom-focused sessions, the conference also served as a valuable space for building connections that will benefit future staffing and program development in Sachem. Career and Technical Education Chairperson Ryan Theiss met with Dr. Diana L. Schwinge, who previously collaborated with Sachem on the ECE application process, to explore streamlined certification pathways for current teachers interested in earning Technology Education certification. Through Adelphi University, these pathways may be completed in as few as 12–18 credits, offering a meaningful pipeline for expanding the number of qualified technology educators.
Theiss also networked with new and student teachers, with plans to invite several of them into the district for school visits. Additionally, he established contact with representatives from New York City College of Technology and SUNY Oswego to proactively reach out to their graduates when new positions are posted through OLAS.
