Over the weekend of Jan. 5, 20 seniors from Sachem East and North high schools attended the New York State Theater Education Association Conference in Callicoon, New York. This was the first year Sachem attended, and the organization’s 27th annual conference.

More than 700 students from across the state attended to participate in educational theater workshops, performances and special events. First, they watched a Broadway performer from “Rent” and learned about his career. Each student then chose five workshops they were interested in – ranging from lighting, to acting to musical directing. Each workshop was presented by professionals and college professors in the field. To end the trip, students attended a college fair with school representatives from across New York.
