The Foreign Language Honor Society at Sachem High School East is participating in the Pulsera Project. The Pulsera Project is a nonprofit that connects artists from Central America with schools in the U.S. to sell colorful handwoven bracelets, or “pulseras” in Spanish. The organization offers economic opportunities for artists in Guatemala and Nicaragua while providing schools with international community service projects. Through the process, students are educated on fair trade practices and the money raised helps to fund several social impact programs to provide education, housing and healthcare.
Throughout the month of October, the Foreign Language Honor Society is selling “pulseras” for $7 and “bolsitas,” or bags, for $15. Their goal is to sell 400 bracelets to help these artisans in Nicaragua and Guatemala.
