Sachem Alumni Association Founder and President Chris Vaccaro was recently honored by the Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce. Chris was presented with a “Heart & Soul Award” for his important work in the Sachem community. He oversees the Sachem Athletic Hall of Fame, built the Sachem Hall of Honor, produces the Sachem Conversations oral history project, organizes alumni speakers in our schools, and manages a Sachem traditions project that has curated images and information for hundreds of posters, and plaques in our school facilities. Chris is the publisher of SachemReport.com in addition to his career as a media executive, professor, author and community advocate.


I love my Sachem community, and I do everything I can to make people realize what a special place it is, he said. Through its history, spirit, and untapped potential, I want the next generation of alumni and residents to be equally proud to call this place home.


Last month, Chris was recognized as an honored guest at the San Gennaro Feast and as a Spirit Award honoree at Citi Field for his international relations and baseball development work as the director of the Italian American Baseball Foundation. The nonprofit works to build a bridge with Italy through baseball. With October being Italian Heritage Month, Chris and his colleagues have been busy at several IABF functions to promote their organization and support their heritage.
