Sachem High School North student Ashley Edgar received a perfect score on her AP Capstone Research assessment, making her one of only 357 students worldwide to earn this achievement. Students taking AP Capstone Research can earn a score of 5 on their paper and presentation without perfect scores on the rubric, however, Ashley earned a perfect score on both rubrics. She is the first student in Sachem history to earn this accolade.

Ashley’s research studied how the behavior of goldfish and danios is influenced by melodic content and rhythm. She found that rhythm induces more behavior changes in the fish compared to melody. Through Ashley’s findings, future research can study the benefits of auditory enrichment of music on fish and other marine life to help reduce the stress from anthropogenic noise, or noise generated by humans.
