Sachem student Jeferson Martinez-Lopez recently won Suffolk County Legislator Nick Caracappa’s Operation Safe Stop Poster Contest and was recognized by the Board of Education for his work in promoting school bus safety.

Operation Safe Stop is a statewide initiative to educate communities and stop drivers from passing a school bus when its red lights are flashing. Hundreds of elementary students from across the fourth legislative district took part in the poster contest and Jeferson’s design was named the winner. The district went on to further promote school bus safety by including Jeferson’s designs on magnets and reusable shopping bags.
