Sachem High School East students spread awareness about their triumphs and struggles as students with disabilities in recognition of May being Better Speech-Language and Hearing Month. The students spoke to an audience of their peers, parents, teachers and administrators and described how their disabilities have impacted them academically and socially.

The speeches highlighted student achievements, passions and goals while increasing awareness and compassion. The messages inspired their peers to focus on strengths. Some of the topics covered included autism, dyslexia, ADHD, diabetes, anxiety, depression, hearing impairment and seizures. The feedback from the audience was described as incredibly positive and inspiring.
