Teams of fifth grade artists at Waverly Elementary School competed against each other and the clock during the Art Chopped Finals. The competition, led by art teacher Susan Kinsey, challenges teams of three to use mystery art supplies to create a project following a given theme. The concept is based off the popular Food Network show, “Chopped.”

At the start of each of the three rounds, students were given a mystery box of supplies. In each round, they had to use all of the art media to create a project under a tight time limit. The first round they were challenged with creating a landscape, the second round they created group self-portraits and the final round challenged them to follow the theme, “In the future.”

Once the timer went off, a panel of judges reviewed the projects and gave scores based on craftsmanship, creativity, main objective and teamwork. Teams were eliminated based on the judges’ decision. The “Coco Colers” came out on top and won this year’s competition.
