The Sachem Central School District robotics team, Aftershock, earned the Gracious Professionalism Award after competing in the Long Island Regional FIRST Robotics Competition at Hofstra University.

The Gracious Professionalism Award is given to the team that exemplifies the principles of FIRST – fairness, humility, positivity and respect. This team demonstrates the FIRST core values and works together on and off the field of play. It was noted that Aftershock generated a program that resulted in building a network of spare parts to be redistributed back to teams on Long Island, placing the community first.

Aftershock is made up of students from both Sachem High School East and North. At the Long Island FIRST Robotics Competition, they competed against several teams from Long Island and around the globe in point-based challenges with the robot they designed and built.
