Sachem Dad, Service Member Receives Heartwarming Welcome Home at Tamarac Elementary

Posted Date: 10/25/25 (8:08 PM)

Tamarac HomecomingIt was a moment of pure joy and community pride on Friday as Tamarac Elementary School gave a surprise welcome home to U.S. Air Force mechanic Dominic Surinaga, who returned from deployment to greet his son, Eric Surinaga, in Kim Machin’s third-grade class.

Surinaga, who has served in the Air Force for more than 16 years, had been deployed for the past seven months, most recently stationed at Dover Air Force Base and traveling to various parts of the country for his work. His unexpected arrival brought smiles, cheers, and even a few happy tears as students, teachers, and staff joined in celebrating his return.

“This is the first time I have gotten to greet my sons, Eric and Henry, at school,” Surinaga shared. “Every time I was deployed, I’d come home on the weekend. So this was extra special to me — I feel so blessed right now.”

The emotional reunion served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by military families and the strength of the Sachem community in honoring those who serve. Thank you, Mr. Surinaga!
