Sachem High School North is proud to welcome Peter Strong as its newest Assistant Principal.

Strong brings a diverse professional background, a deep commitment to students, and a passion for fostering supportive school communities.

Strong’s path to education began after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a minor in History from Binghamton University in 2014. He went on to work as a Project Management Office Consultant at Credit Suisse in Manhattan, but soon realized that his true calling was teaching. That realization led him to the NYC Teaching Fellows program, where he earned his MSEd in Teaching Urban Adolescents with Disabilities from LIU-Brooklyn while teaching Special Education at the John Jay School of Law in Brooklyn.

During his time there, Strong not only taught but also served as grade team chair and contributed to the instructional cabinet and professional development committee. In 2020, he joined Sachem High School East, where he has taught Global History for the past five years and helped redesign the district-wide curriculum for Global History 9 and 10 across ICT and self-contained classrooms. Most recently, he completed his Advanced Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership at Stony Brook University, including an administrative internship with the Office of Student Services and mentorship under Sachem East Principal Lou Antonetti.

Reflecting on his time in the district, Strong shared, “Sachem has been a wonderful place to work. When I first joined the district, I was admittedly a bit intimidated by its size. But I quickly came to appreciate that, despite its scale, Sachem feels like a tight-knit community. There’s a strong sense of pride among staff, students, and families in being part of this district, and even as someone who came from outside, it’s easy to share in that pride.”

When asked what inspired his journey into education, Strong pointed to his own role models.

“I was fortunate to have exceptional teachers growing up—educators who shaped my life in meaningful ways," he said. "Their impact made me want to pursue a career in teaching so I could offer that same support and guidance to others. Once I became a teacher, I began to see how critical effective leadership is to a school’s success. I was inspired by the administrators I worked with—people who created strong, supportive cultures—and I knew I wanted to contribute in that same way."

As he begins his role at Sachem North, Strong is focused on building connections.

“My primary goal in the first year is to build meaningful relationships with students, staff, and fellow administrators, both here at North and across the district. I want each of these groups to know they can rely on me as someone dependable, approachable, and committed to supporting their success.”

He emphasizes open communication and visibility as keys to building trust: “For students, I want to get to know them, celebrate their successes, and support them through challenges. For staff, I aim to be someone they can count on, a collaborator, problem-solver, and listener with an open-door policy. With families, I’ll prioritize proactive communication and partnership, ensuring they feel informed, welcomed, and involved.”

Already, Strong says the warm welcome from his new community has been the highlight of his transition.

“Without question, the most rewarding part so far has been the people I’ve met here at North. Everyone has been so welcoming and professional. All of the interactions I’ve had over this past month make me excited and optimistic about the year ahead.”

With his strong background, passion for education, and student-centered leadership, Mr. Strong is poised to make a meaningful impact at Sachem High School North.
