At the June 15 meeting of the Sachem Central School District Board of Education, the Board recognized two student teams for accomplishments in recent events.
The Board first acknowledged the students who represented Sachem in the Long Island Special Olympics Spring Games. Student-athletes from Samoset Middle School, Sachem High School East and Sachem High School North took the field on May 21 in a number of events. All athletes took home medals in their divisions. Congratulations to the following participants: Matthew Calpakis, Kevin Dankel, Justin Dunn, Isabella Hurney, Solliana Juarez, Ross Krasnicki, Maximus Marone, Connor Martin, Keegan McAleer, Shane McCue, Christina Morin, Daniel Nistor, Kyle Pelliccione, Nicco Prass, Ruben Presinal and Brianna Scofield.
The student recognition continued with honoring Lynwood Avenue’s Destination Imagination Team. The team recently placed fourth in the world for its Fine Arts Challenge. Additionally, the team won first place in the Instant Challenge, which is a timed, creative and critical-thinking exercise that builds teamwork. Congratulations to all seven team members: Cristina Calle, Sofia Lopez, Jack Mitchell, Aarya Pai, Charlotte Percy, Shrey Sheth and Anabella Totino.
Additionally, the Board and administration thanked the District’s retirees for their service to the school community. The District wishes the following the best in their future endeavors: Tracy Brennan, Lisa Browne, Susan Cella, Karen Kopf, Regina McBride, Jonathan Metzger, Colleen Moss and Cheryl Semler.
