Fourth grade students at Waverly Avenue Elementary School recently participated in a lesson in which they learned interesting information about Native Americans and the means they used to communicate.
As part of the activity students learned how stories were shared through the use of symbols and drawings to either document an important event or leave information for someone else to find. Additionally, students examined symbols and identified the correlation they have to the way we still use symbols today.
During the activity students viewed a Native American story and tried to decipher the message before attempting to accurately document a story they heard using symbols.
