Smiles and cheers from family and friends welcomed a distinguished group of graduating seniors on June 25 to a sun-covered field for the Sachem High School North commencement ceremony honoring the Class of 2021 and celebrating their collective accomplishments.
As “Pomp and Circumstance” carried through the air, the excited graduates took the field at Fred Fusaro Alumni Stadium for the last time as students of the Sachem Central School District. The commencement exercises then began with the national anthem performed by the Sachem North Symphonic and Treble Choir Seniors, conducted by Cara Caliendo.
Principal Andrew Larson began his address by recognizing several students who would be entering the armed services following graduation. As he continued, he spoke to the great hopes he has for this outstanding class and their future.
“When I look at you, I am in awe of the immeasurable potential and talent you possess,” he said. “You have proven yourselves on the field, on stage and in the classroom and are now ready to go out into the world and show everyone what a Sachem graduate can do.”
Valedictorian Erika Sneider then took the stage and reflected on what her fellow classmates have overcome and the great things they will achieve next in life. “I am so grateful to have grown up with all of you,” she said. “I know we are going to change the world in ways both big and small, and I couldn’t be prouder to graduate with all of you today. So, as we leave Sachem North and move on to what comes next and pursue our dreams, make sure you look around and soak it all in because we have a bright future ahead.”
Continuing the ceremony, class president Nicholas Maloney delivered an insightful speech, sharing a history of the Sachem Central School District and how the visions of great success held by the founders of the district have been met by graduating classes such as theirs.
Board of Education President Alex Piccirillo then began the presentation of diplomas. After the final diplomas were presented, cheers and applause echoed across the field as students emphatically threw their caps to the sky, exiting the field as alumni of the Sachem Central School District.
