Tecumseh’s History

Welcome to Tecumseh!

On May 4, 1966 the Sachem School District voters approved a proposal to purchase the present site of Tecumseh Elementary School on Granny Road in Farmingville

for $214,500.  This land included the property for the future site of Sachem High School East campus.  Under the leadership of the School Board President Herman W. Beebe, a proposition was approved on November 23,1968 to build Tecumseh School at a cost of $1,500,000.  Construction was completed in December, 1970.  With the construction completed the students led by Principal David Brewer, moved to Tecumseh on

January 4, 1971 and officially opened the building.

Within a few years the population explosion in our community brought about split sessions again and additional classrooms were built.  Eight rooms were added to the north side of the building and opened in December of 1975.  The final additions to Tecumseh came as part of the Sachem 2000 Referendum.  With its approval in June of 2000 extensive repairs, upgrades and additions came to Tecumseh.  Two additional kindergarten rooms and an expanded library were completed in time for the opening of school in September of 2004.  Full day kindergarten was now in place.

We hope we are ready to meet the needs of the community for the next 25 years.

Working hand in hand, the Tecumseh family gives true meaning to its motto:
