Text Box: Dear Parents and Guardians,
While it may seem early, we are quickly approaching the time when the staff meets to discuss class placement for the 2007-08 school year. Creating balanced classes both academically and socially requires a great deal of consideration and many people are involved in the process. If you would like to offer additional information about your child’s learning styles, strengths and/or weaknesses, please send me a confidential letter by May 1, 2007 so that it can be factored into our decision in creating balanced classes. Of course, the classroom teachers know the children well at this point in the year and a letter is not required. Due to the extensive decision making process that we put into balancing the classes, we can not accept letters requesting a specific teacher.
Our staffing and number of sections for each grade level will not be finalized until the end of the summer. You will receive your child’s class assignment in late August. As always, we appreciate your awareness and understanding of the long and thoughtful placement process.
					Sincerely,
					Bernadette Gentile

Text Box: People As Reading Partners is a collaborative effort among parents/guardians, staff and the community to build a reading partnership between the home and school. This year we have expanded our PARP activities to include students in grades in K through 5. The program will run from March 16th through April 27th. (The weeks of April 2nd and April 9th are “make-up” weeks.) Students will sign and return a “reading contract” and then will read with a parent/guardian or other adult in the household for 15 minutes per day for 5 out of 7 days each week. Each student will record what they read on a reading log sheet from Friday to Thursday of the following week. The logs will be turned in every Friday morning to the classroom teacher and collected by the PARP committee. The minutes will be calculated for each class/grade level and the logs will be returned to the classroom before the end of the school day by the PARP committee members. Logs will be due from each student on the following Fridays:
-March 23rd, March 30th, April 20th and April 27th.
During the final week of PARP, (4/23-4/27—Turn Off the TV and Read Week) we will participate in a number of “school spirit” and “literacy encouraging” activities. If the entire school reads a total of 200,000 minutes, our principal Ms. Gentile will take on a student challenge! Please read the PARP notices for more information. This should be an exciting time for our school!

Dismissal Procedures

Reminder

Re

Please keep in mind that while we understand there is an occasional emergency, last minute phone calls to the main office requesting a change in dismissal is unsafe for your child and disruptive to the class routine.  Please make sure to create dismissal plan with your child.  A change in the plan would require a note to the classroom teacher providing the date and specific change you are requesting.  Please keep in mind that last minute telephone requests are used sparingly and for emergency purposes.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Kindergarten registration letters were sent home to students in mid-January.  The deadline to return the information was February 9th.  Families will receive kindergarten registration appointments, which will begin early in March.  If you know of anyone that does not yet have a student at Tamarac and lives in our area, please urge them to contact the school to register their child.  A kindergarten orientation will be provided in May.  Information will be sent home some time in late April.
