PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Parents, Students, and Community Members,
Welcome to the Tamarac Elementary School website! At Tamarac we strive to provide a friendly, home-like atmosphere where everyone works together as a family. We invite you to join our family to help the Tamarac Elementary School children reach their full potential and to become life-long learners.
Built in 1972, Tamarac is one of twelve elementary schools in the Sachem School District. Tamarac educates approximately 700 children from over 500 families and includes over 70 staff members. We are fortunate to have many of our original staff members still at Tamarac, as well as, many new members to the learning community. All staff members, including our retirees, work together to make Tamarac a very special place for children to grow and learn.
The mission of the Tamarac Elementary School staff is to work together in partnership with parents and the community to develop goal oriented, confident, respectful learners who will strive to realize their highest potential. By providing developmentally appropriate curriculum in a stimulating, comfortable environment, taught by a knowledgeable, nurturing staff, Tamarac Elementary School is a great place for children to develop the skills and strategies that they will need to be successful in the 21 st century.
We have many goals for Tamarac during the 2007-08 school year, such as the continuation of our new literacy program. This year we will have a part time literacy coach in our school to support our growth in this area. In addition, we will have a new math program and a new health program, which we will be implementing this year. Finally, in technology we are creating a computer lab with a Smartboard. This should assist our students and staff in widening our learning environment to include the world!
It is our belief that collaboration between the home and school is essential for optimum learning and student success. Therefore, we welcome you to join us for activities and programs throughout the year. We also encourage you to join the PTA and to work with us to continue Tamarac’s legacy as a family. We at Tamarac truly believe in the old African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.”
