                        Mrs. Kerrin Asner

It is my objective, during the course of the year, to introduce the children to different periods of art history while covering many two and three dimensional mediums and skills.

My philosophy is best explained by Laurie Schneider Adams in A History of Western Art. Art is a vital and persistent aspect of everyday life.  We can see the artistic impulse inborn in each of us by observing children, who make pictures, sculptures, and buildings before learning to read or write. Children trace images in dirt or sand, and decorate just about anything from their own faces to the walls of their houses.  They spontaneously make mud pies and snowmen.  If given a pile of building blocks, they usually attempt to stack one on top of another to make a tower.  All are efforts to create order from disorder and form from formlessness.

This impulse needs to be cultivated.  My intention is to create an environment of experimentation and analysis rather than judgment, focusing on the process rather than the product.
