Sequoya Students and Parents,
Welcome to the Sequoya website! This is a place for you to find valuable information about our programs and scheduled events. You can access valuable content such as the daily announcements, the student handbook, important forms, staff e-mail contacts and PTA information. We are excited with the arrival of our new and returning students. We had so many great accomplishments in the last school year and I am confident that the coming year will be just as exciting and rewarding.
In an effort to save money and go green we will be limiting mailings to the home. Necessary documents will be posted on-line and distributed during school when appropriate. Additionally, progress reports and report cards will be accessed on the e-school parent portal. They will not be mailed as has been the practice in the past. Anyone who does not have access to the internet can contact the Sequoya Main Office and arrange for mailings to be provided.
Our focus for the coming school year will continue to include improved academic achievement. We will meet the challenges of new state mandates and assessments while providing students with meaningful, enriching educational experiences. We will continue to offer extra-curricular opportunities for students including sport teams, performing groups, clubs, dances, field trips and the musical production, to name a few. Citizenship and social responsibility are hallmarks of a Sequoya education. There will be many opportunities for community service in the coming year. Middle School is about experiencing new activities so become involved!
The staff at Sequoya seeks to form a partnership with the students and parents. The first contact should be the classroom teacher if you have academic or social concerns. The Guidance Department is available to facilitate communication and provide strategies to help students succeed academically and socially. The Administration stands ready to help as well.
Attendance in class plays a crucial role with the academic success of a child. Be mindful to schedule appointments for your child outside of the school day whenever possible. Please remember to call the attendance office (207-7100) if your child is going to be absent or late on any given day.
Please be sure to check our website (www.sachem.edu) throughout the year for updates on all of the upcoming events at the Sequoya Middle School. Click on “Schools” then “Sequoya” on the left hand menu.
We wish you the best in the coming school year!
Sincerely,
Frank Panasci
Principal
