Description

Science Club

Ms. Berton

The science club will provide 6 th – 8 th grade students with additional opportunities to explore the world of Science through hands-on activities, observation and experimentation. Meetings on 2nd Wednesday of the month.


Drama Club

This club will give students who are interested in drama the opportunity to perform in Sequoya’s drama production.


Student Government
Ms. Rossi & Mr. Webb

Student Government is involved in planning and organizing student events, dances and school trips. Students along with Ms. Walsh and Mrs. Rossi will plan fund-raising for both the community and student benefit. This club will also organize food and toy drives. 1x monthly / 45 minutes.


Renaissance Community Service Club

Ms. Schaefer

This club will assist students to become more respectful and responsible toward each other and to society as a whole. The students will work on various community service projects within the district. 2x monthly / 45 minutes.

Peer Tutoring Club

Ms. Prescott

Students will be paired up with honor students to help with homework and study skills to improve grades. 1x weekly / 45 minutes.

Book Club

Ms. Bucher

The Book Club is meeting once a month on the 3rd Thursday of each month to discuss books that are not part of the regular curriculum. Students will also participate in discussion and other activities through a blog, Glogster, Animoto, and/or a student-created website.

This is a new club for Sequoya. It was established to build new relationships through socialization and to encourage ties and involvement between Special Education students and general population. 1x monthly / 45 minutes

Yearbook Club

Sequoya’s Yearbook Club is open to students in grades 6 through 8. Throughout the school year, students work collaboratively to preserve their memories by creating the Sequoya yearbook. Yearbook club members participate in a variety of ways, including theme development, photography, advertising, publicizing, graphic design and editing. 1x monthly / 45 minutes

The Environmental Action Club

The Environmental Action Club is designed to further the member’s awareness of environmental issues, educate the school community about environmental issues, create an ecologically responsible school community and improve the natural surroundings of the school.

7th & 8th Grade Art Club

The 7 th and 8 th Art Club gives any 7 th or 8 th grade student the opportunity to expand their art experience. They will learn new techniques and expand creativity through different projects that are not offered during the regular curriculum. 1x monthly / 45 minutes.

6th Grade Art Club

The 6th Grade Art Club gives any 6th grade student the opportunity to expand their art experience. They will learn new techniques and expand creativity through different projects that are not offered during the regular 6th grade curriculum. 1x monthly / 45 minutes.

 

Literary Magazine Club

The Literary Magazine will create an opportunity to showcase student writing and artwork at Sequoya. The Magazine will be enjoyed by students, parents, teachers and administrators. The club will attract students with writing, reading and artistic inclinations. Students will write poems and short stories as well as illustrate them for publication in the Magazine in May. Students will also select quality literature from works submitted by Sequoya teachers. Club members will be involved in all aspects of publication. Some of the skills we will practice are: preparing rough drafts; editing; selecting written works to be published; organization; and illustration.

Leaders Club

Ms. Fallon

The purpose of the club is to reinforce and enhance leadership qualities of student athletes. Emphasis will be placed on academic achievement, athletic prowess and sportsmanship. Students are to be selected by the physical education staff and/or the coaches. The club will meet at least once a month and all members must maintain a high standard of athletic and academic achievement and must be representative of a good school citizen. Functions may include school and community services.

Courtyard Club

This club will give students the experience to become involved  in a hands-on learning experience.  Students will research how to create a simple, yet aesthetically pleasing pond with biotic and abiotic features (waterfall, rock garden), investigate the type of organisms able to survive in and outside the pond, discover what factors are necessary to maintain an ecosystem, possibly incorporate environmental artwork, and create a peaceful place to relax whenever possible.

 

Student Building Leadership Team

To have students delve deeper into the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. We would use the book, 7 Habits for Highly Effective Teens, to build the club members’ stills for leadership.In addition the club members would plan and implement a calendar of events which focus on bringing the 7 Habits skills to building wide activities. This club would coordinate with Renaissance, Honor Society and Student Government to put Sequoya students in leadership roles (ex “greeters” at meetings and student arrival, morning announcements, ushers for assemblies, cafeteria marquis and “lunchroom leaders”).

7th & 8th Grade Technology Club

Mr. Michta

Students will complete various projects that will require them to use their knowledge of technology, math, and science in a hands-on learning environment. It will also promote problem solving, visualization, conceptualization, and the ability to follow detailed instructions. Possible projects include: catapult challenge, LEGO® robotics, manufacturing and mass production of toys for charity.
