Dear Parents and Guardians:

 

During the first few weeks of January, Samoset’s Guidance Department will begin the process of programming your child for 9th grade.  Please note the important dates below.

 

On Thursday, January 14th at Sachem North High School, there is a very important meeting for all Samoset eighth graders and their parents.  The purpose of this meeting is to discuss 9th grade course offerings.  The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.  Please mark this date on your calendar and make every effort to attend.  The information given at this meeting is important for your child’s 9th grade programming.  If you plan to attend this meeting, bring along the Sachem High School Guidance Handbook distributed to your child in school. 

 

During the week of January 11th, all eighth graders will attend a meeting during the school day, where Sachem’s High School Guidance Handbook and a copy of the attached programming folder will be distributed and explained.  Please be sure to discuss the programming information, especially the elective options, with your child.

 

Beginning Wednesday, January 20th your child’s teachers will recommend academic and performing music courses for next year.  Mrs. Morgillo, 8th Grade Guidance Counselor, will be meeting with eighth grade students for the purpose of course selections for 9th grade.  During these small group meetings, students will choose electives to complete their freshman program.

 

A course verification sheet will be sent home in late March.  This sheet will list your child’s courses for    9th grade.  Please keep in mind that all recommendations are tentative, pending the results of your child’s performance in June.

 

During the months of March and April, Mrs. Morgillo will be available to meet with parents.  Please call the Guidance Office to schedule an appointment at (631) 471-1737.
